Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 6

We had lost a lot of time while we were holding off the Solarus, and already I could see smoke coming from the distant city.

Lark, can you get us up?” I asked, she gave me a quick nod back and placed both hands on the ground. Before I knew what was happening I was being lifted into the air on the branches of a giant tree. Vines shot upwards, covering us from the bullets below as the branch we were on grew outwards.

Let's go, we can't let the others have all the fun!” She said as the two of us went down along the branch.

To bring us closer to the ground the branch sloped downward as we went, unfortunately the gradual slope eventually got too steep. I soon lost my footing, and slide down the remaining branch bottom first; this was in stark contrast to Lark who easily skipped over my fallen form at the bottom. Groaning a little I got up and looked around. It looked like the city was built out of warehouses; long black buildings in neat rows with wide streets as far as the eye could see. It made me shiver a little as we went down the quiet dark streets. I could hear the sounds of fighting in the distance, which put me on edge. Every block we passed I was checking down the alleys, looking for something, anything; Solarus, Beast, Commanders, an opponent.

Then I saw a glint of something, and a whip crack rang through the air. Instinctively I pushed Lark down, just as something stuck onto my backside. Immediately I was being lifted into the air backwards, scrambling I saw my staff fall into the street below; then I was above the roof line. I could see what looked like a Solarus standing on top of one of the buildings. He was missing armor in places, and was radiating more strength than the other metal creatures we had been facing so far.

I followed the whip in its hands, already guessing the other end was currently attached to my back; I tried to wedge it off, when an arrow hit it from below. I landed on one of the rooftops with a thud and grudgingly got up. Just in time to get out of the way of another whiplash. The Commander was on a roof next to mine, and as soon as the whip was back it wound up for another blow. Obviously no time to rest.

I fell back to one of my strong points, my speed. I lightly hopped back from its range; weaving my way closer to the imposing creature. All at once I was in striking distance, and taking that advantage I kicked off from the ground, propelling myself forward fist.

I collided, taking a chunk of the creature's shoulder away. However at the same time I felt the whip crack along my back; leaving a sweltering pain down my backside. Seconds later I felt the line wrap around my body, locking my other arm to my side. At the same time I felt suddenly weak and dizzy.

My brain went into over drive. Unlike the training rooms I couldn't just create a pool of water here to rehydrate myself. If I had my staff I might be able to spray myself, but I didn't. My legs suddenly gave out, I could feel the thing begin to wrap me up as I laid there watching the clouds pass overhead. Then I had an idea.

Fighting through the haze of my mind, I focused on my arm, trying to lift it, trying to gather enough strength to move. I concentrated, pulling what little water was left in me together. I aimed the shot up, and sent the burst of water straight up. My vision immediately began clouding over, as I waited. Then a drop, right on my exposed hand. Then another. Then the telltale rattle of rain enveloped me. It was pouring, I felt my body pulsing with new strength. I sat up, tearing the whip line off my other arm. It tried to continue to stick to me, but it also seemed to get caught in the air now. Slowly I wiggled my way out standing up again. The creature tugged at its whip, the line shifting and freezing every few seconds.

Finally it saw I was fully free and approaching, so it gave up, leaving the whip suspended in the air, as it drew a black blade. Great I was still unarmed. Then a thought occurred to me. I held out my hand, calling to the water around me. Slowly a transparent blade formed in my palm. I tested it, stabbing the roof. It left a neat hole in the ground. Grinning I gripped the handle with my other hand and prepared myself.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 5

Anatos
If you had told me just two months ago I would be sky diving out of a plane, I'd have said you were crazy. Now if you had asked if I would ever like to go sky diving I would have told you to go to hell. As such I was screaming at the top of my lungs, not that anyone could probably hear it as the wind all but muted me. I saw Lark open her chute below me and not wanting to die I followed suit.

The roughshod chute struggled a little against the wind, but held. I busied myself with catching my breath, only to realize it was freezing out here. I was somehow not surprised that my feet sank into the snow until it was up to my ankles.

Here, I figured you'd forget.” Lark said tossing a sweater over to me from her bag. I stammered out a thanks before slipping it on. I could feel my body freezing; and given I was now made of even more water than normal I had to wonder if that was a figurative feeling or a literal one.

Rather than waste precious time checking I led the charge to get out of this frozen dump.

Anatos.” Lark called after me, trying to keep up. “Are you okay?” I sighed, a pillow of white sliding away from my face.

I think I should get out of this cold. Who knows, I might actually freeze up.” She nodded, and tried to keep pace. Though she didn't have to for long. We had dropped almost next to the cliff face, I could feel the temperature difference as I reached my hand out over the cliff face. I started trying to think of how to get down when Lark just walked past me, stabbing a stick into the ground. Seconds later it turned into a thick branch, reaching out over the abyss.

Come on, we don't want to be left out.” She said, smiling back at me before climbing down the branch, another one growing below it. I slide along after her, hopping lightly from branch to branch, stopping every once in a while to pull out splinters.

By the time I was on the ground below she had her bow out, and was aiming carefully. Looking out in that direction I could see a swarm of Solarus already heading our way. Deciding to try out one of my new techniques I laid my staff on top of my shoulder blade like one would a bazooka. With a little concentration the water billowed out making a hollow shape. I took aim at the closest Solarus, feeling water pressure build up in the back of my weapon.

Guessing the range I pulled the trigger I had formed and a cannonball sized ball of water flew out of my weapon. It hit the leading Solarus with a crack, shredding the metal armor, and sending several of the other armored monsters flying. Gleefully I took aim again, enjoying my new squirt cannon.

Lark, however, fired next; aiming at the pool that I had left behind. Instantly bramble spread outwards from the pond, tangling itself around the incoming Solarus. I aimed a distance away and made another hole, this time she created a mass of vines; and over the next few minutes we effectively barricaded ourselves away from the oncoming Solarus; now having to fight through a field of tree, bramble, and water traps.

As I set up to take another shot, I felt a wave of dizziness pass over me. “Crap. I must've used too much water.” I said, lowering the fading cannon. Lark turned to me.

Alright, rest a little, here.” She pulled out a canteen. “I brought this.” I drank thirstily and happily, pondering if these gifts were just her being thoughtful, or if they meant something else. As I sat and drank, I held a few fantasies about Lark, trying to find a solid answer in her. Nothing came to mind, and as the last droplet fell on my tongue I realized it was time to get back into the fray.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 4

“Hey.”

“Waugh!” Moot appeared from the wall's face, stretching his own face so that it looked like the wall was staring at me.

“You ready to enter me?” I just stared at him, until the hail of bullets reminded me of the situation. His face opened into a giant mouth as I jumped, this was going to be far more disturbing than I had originally thought.

I landed, however, in the dirt on the other side. Behind me Moot pulled himself off the wall and began patting me on the back.

“There there, it wasn't too bad for your first time.” I tried to hit him, but my hand just passed through his face.

“Do you realize where we are!?” I yelled getting up. “Is this really the best time to be joking around like that!?” He wasn't even looking at me. “Can you be serious for just five...” I couldn't finish my sentence, he ducked under my arm suddenly; and I felt a pressure behind me.

Turning I saw Moot's scythe holding back a long black blade. The opponent felt definitely stronger than a normal Solarus. With patches of armor missing to ease mobility I concluded this must be one of the Commanders Tech had warned us about. It lifted a gloved hand, revealing a small bell. If it had a face it would be menacing as it shook the bell lightly.

The ground around it turned dark, stretching out. I tried to move away, but I was rapidly trapped inside the black ring. As soon as it passed me my vision went dark. There was no light, I tested with my hand, and even after I accidentally poked myself in the eye I couldn't see it.

I tried to calm my breathing, steadying myself I turned around and began running for the edge of the darkness; only to feel a sudden sharp pain in my side. Feeling around, my hand caught on the end of a blade; warm blood coating it. I couldn't even tell where I had been stabbed. All at once the blade vanished, more bleeding followed. I pressed my hands on the wound, feeling heat pulse from my hands. It was sealing up.

I remembered all at once my gift; focusing my eyes I tried to imagine I could see. Slowly shadows began moving. Soon I could see two figures shifting in the darkness. I held my staff tight and slowly tried to approach. Trying to distinguish the two and trying not to get hit.

As I got closer the fight got clearer; Moot and the Commander were trading blows at a rapid pace; I tried to think about what to do, what was my best option. I had all the powers in the world, what would work best?

My mind raced, the obvious choice would be to create light, but the sudden blast might do nothing to the Commander and would definitely blind Moot. I couldn't risk a distanced attack, I could barely see as things stood and I couldn't risk hitting Moot. The more I thought about it the more my other senses kicked in, the gentle patter of Moot's shoes, the disturbing clank of the Commander's steps. Occasionally a clang of metal, sometimes a light ripping sound, light cloth being torn. Finally I decided.

Focusing on my right arm I pumped as much power as I could into it, using that energy to pump the muscles up; which would prevent my arm from glowing. I gripped my staff tightly, and followed the sounds and slight movement. Suddenly I heard a loud clang right in front of me. Reaching out my left hand touched cold metal, without a second thought I struck out with my right while pulling the thing back with my left. I felt shrapnel bounce against my arm just as light began flitting into the area. The small bell landed with a light jingle. I could see Moot pick it up. He looked roughed up, his normal black robes were cut up all over the place, and he seemed to be bleeding profusely.

“T-Thanks.” He said, breathing heavily.

“Sit down for a moment. I can heal you a little.” I said, recalling my own impromptu healing earlier. He stubbornly stayed up.

“I'd love to, but we do have some company.” I looked up and saw Solarus filling up the alleyway behind us; not much later they were in front of us too. Again I started thinking, but we didn't have time now.

“Moot. Lie down. Take this, lie down, and when you see an opening; run for it.” I said holding out my staff.

“Isn't that...” He didn't finish, but he did nod. As the staff left my hands I immediately felt the changes start taking place. My last conscious thought was I hope he gets away.

When we got back the entire base was under alert. Apparently a new group had arrived and they were causing a bit of a ruckus. They wanted to attack, Metudo wanted to stay the defensive. Sonic and I were exhausted, we chose to sit back and watch the chaos.

Surprisingly it was the non-fighters that rose against these newcomers. Odin stepped in, as did Anatos and Metudo, but the other fighters decided to stand back and watch. I was sure we all wanted the same thing, to go and finish this. If these people had a way to win, then I was behind them.

It concluded as I had hoped, their leader, a young girl named Neko had won out in a fight against Metudo. Historically, this meant the passing of the torch. There was also some business about one of the others having a big secret that got out. I didn't care.

What I did care about was the changes over the next few days. The people were being armed, all of the fighters were being fitted for armor and weapons if desired. One of the newcomers, Thorium, had control over metals; and he was generating more than enough to fuel a war machine.

The plan was somewhat simple, we were going to launch an attack in six directions. The majority of us were going to attack from the ground, Tech was busy building up a fleet to air drop us close enough to strike.

I was asked to join at the West group. Four people were given the Crystals; Goku, Sonic, Luffy, and Ichigo. They were each put in a different group. I was running alongside Sonic, much to my dismay.

We were going to be leading the Mobian army, so I guess it made some form of sense. Everyone was armed, so long as they could fight. Only a tenth were remaining behind to defend the young and the old.

I chose to forgo armor or weapons of any kind, they would just hinder my movement. My goal was simple enough. Get to the tower, and retrieve the Crystals. Eggman had managed to gather three while we were hunting, and I could not allow whatever that black stone was to wake up.

Fan Fiction Chapter Series. Shadow Chapter 15

I woke up coughing. We had warped, but where was a hard question. I shook Sonic awake.

“Where are we?” He asked looking around at the icy landscape.

“Feels like ice floats, meaning we popped ourselves out into the middle of the most frigid part of the ocean.” I said. This wasn't good, both of us would need to recover strength before we could warp again, and the best we could hope to do in this wasteland was break even; and that would be with food. The two crystals we had were drained, and if prior knowledge served, would take a day or two to recover.

I deftly ate the last of the bread I had grabbed in case of emergency; trying to think about how to get off this rock when Sonic started wandering away.

“What are you doing?”

“Gonna go exploring.”

“Idiot, our best chance is to sit still and recover our strength to the point we can warp.”

“Yeah but I'm bored.”

“Suffer a little then!”

“Like you would know the meaning!” I realized I was seconds away from decking him, wasting precious energy.

“Fine. Go. I'll tell them there was another casualty.” I said, sitting back down. I tried to calm myself, but he sat next to me.

“Did you really not feel anything? Seeing her?”

“I watched my closest friend die before my eyes... twice. What do you think?” I was annoyed, and was probably hiding in my childhood tragedy, but I was also cold, and didn't want to think too hard.

“You know what I think? I think you do care. You just like to act tough.”

“And what about you? Always running away once the threat is over.”

“Eh, just like being free. People start relying on you too much and you loose the ability to be free.” I sighed, now I was getting bored.

“Alright, we'll do one lap around the ice floats, we might find something useful.” I said, getting up and dusting off the snow.

“Now we're talking. I'll go this way, you go that and we'll meet at the other side.”

I had to admit it felt nice, feeling the wind whipping through my spines. Even if it was frigid, my body was warming itself up with the activity. So I picked up my pace, feeling the ice crumbling from the heat my feet generated as I neared my top speed, until something physically snapped my body prone.

The orb in my pouch had locked onto something, I desperately pulled it out, to keep it from ripping its way out. My hands could barely hold it as it strained against my grip.

It flew a good few feet before crashing into the ice. For a moment nothing happened, then a pulsing green light filled my vision. Floating in the new crater was the green Chaos Crystal, 4 rusted stars sitting in the center.

“Sonic!” I called out, I knew he was close.

“Hey! I thought we were going to meet half...” He stopped as he saw the Crystal. “You found the matching Emerald!”

“Yep! Let's get home!” I said, holding the Crystal out to him.
