Story Bonus! Vyrse and Raven, Travelling Across Time Part 3

The village was the strangest thing Vyrse had ever seen. There were patched roof housing made of; straw, mud, and wood. The building components seemed simplistic, yet oddities were there. Often it was the clothing. Nylon, Polyester, cheap cotton, objects from his world, would appear on a person every now and again. Some had wristwatches, others modern day glasses, walking sticks made of cheap steel. He swore he even saw a satellite dish on the roof of one house. All seemed content and happy, completely unaware at Vyrse's presence.

"You should talk to the village elders. They would tell you weather people are happy or not." Vyrse grunted his face not moving. Raven's mask of battle had fallen to reveal a fairly young, joyous look, yet he was no fool. His eyes searched Vyrse's face for any sign of emotion. All he could see was a glistening in the gunman's eyes.

"I've been deceived, tricked, used. The bastard will pay by my hand." The thoughts were welling up in
Vyrse as he looked at the prosperous people. Yet his own wanting to not be wrong, to be able to fulfill his objective, was fighting back. Still the voice willing to admit his defeat had the proof before him. The validity of his world was crumbling before his own eyes as he watched those happy, if odd looking, men and women roam around him. Finally he let out a long sigh.

"Very well, I will show you the portal to my world." He said, turning on his heel. Raven's cheer faltered a little as he suddenly realized what Vyrse was saying. Suddenly he, Raven, would have to work alongside the man he had sought to kill for so long. The thought sent a wave of depression over him as he solemnly followed the gunman.

It was a few miles out, yet still he could hear the unnerving humming sound. Raven shivered slightly as he moved closer to the crackling hole between dimensions. He walked slowly around it, looking at it on all sides. Yet on each side he couldn't see the portal, save for looking right at it. The object looked more like a window, he could see white tile on the other side, and on the edges of the hole he could see wooden cabinets and a white sink. Vyrse shoved him through, following close behind.

Once outside of the bathroom which held the portal, Vyrse led Raven up the steel and cement building, gripping the rooftop and swinging up in a fluid motion.

"Their buildings are so big" Raven thought as he looked out at the blinking city.

"Follow me!" Vyrse yelled as he leapt to the next closest rooftop. Raven glared for a second before sighing and pursuing. The two seemed to move faster than the cars on the ground as they leapt from roof to roof, nearly invisible since their pitch black gear matched with the night time that surrounded them.

"Here it is... I hope." Vyrse said, landing on a flat roof.

"Where is here?"

"Where I usually pick up my rewards." Sure enough two tall men in black suits were waiting in the shadows.

"Ah there you are Vyrse, who is this?"

"A friend. Now where's the man that told me to kill the king of that realm?"

"You know I cannot tell you that." Vyrse sighed and lifted a gun, shooting out the man behind the first without even flinching.

"Now tell me where he is, or you'll be meeting your friend."

"What's gotten into you now Vyrse? Here is your reward, provided you have the foul king's head."

"Why you." Raven growled, lifting his blade.

"I would stop, you see, my new friend had a particular liking to that king. It wouldn't be wise to anger him." Vyrse saw the man's arms through the shadows as they reached to a pocket. "Go ahead. Draw your little water shooter. Shoot the swordsman. I dare you." In the darkness, two shots rang out. Raven instinctively reflected the first shot; the second one had smashed the assailant’s hand. He cried out as he looked at his disfigured hand.

"So, do I take the other hand, or do I move to your face?" Vyrse said.

"Alright! I'll tell you, please don't kill me. He left this world. There's a portal, like yours, downstairs. It leads to the past. He went in there with all his men."

"Fool!" Vyrse said, his voice rising as he slammed open the doors, Raven close behind. The two fled down the stairs, passing from the gray darkness outside to the pitch blackness inside. In the blackness invisible things seemed to swarm at them, causing Raven to panic more than once and lash out at the nonexistent entities. Yet Vyrse held his calm, the blanket of fury recovering his face as he felt for the last door and slammed it open. There were windows inside; large flat glass windows. An entire side of the room seemed to just open up to the air. Yet the humming was the same. The same crackle Raven had heard in the cave, he saw the same before him now. Yet on the other side was a sea of green. Life seemed to dominate that realm, as the two stared and finally passed through.
