Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 14

The awkward melee began, despite only being pieces of one creature, each piece was quick and powerful. I was fortunately quick-footed and for the most part managed to just barely dodge the larger blows. Thorium, however, was not holding up so well. His first instinct was to set up walls and protect himself, but despite whatever he managed to put up the limbs tore through it like it was paper.

We needed to end this fast, most of us were getting thrashed and even through Leukos and I had superior speed, we were wearing down. Unfortunately the pieces didn't give me much time to think, as both a hand and the codpiece swept past me, one after the other; forcing me to spin in midair and land clumsily on my back. I brought my hand up just in time to stop the incoming knee, but did not manage to react to the low flying codpiece as it made a return pass across my face; leaving a deep gash across my cheek.

Dazed, I stared upwards as my hand barely held of the knee's pressure. Eyes were staring back at me. I blinked once, quickly pushing the haze out of my mind. Floating near the ceiling was thin helmet and torso.

“Up there! The main body is up there!” I yelled out. As soon as I did the assault ended as the pieces converged above us, concealing the creature's weakness. Fortunately, Lark had already spotted her mark and let loose a small volley, followed closely by Leukos' own set of arrows. The varying pieces were quickly pinned against the roof, the head and torso having moved out of the way.

I winced a little as I sat back up. Everyone looked a little roughed up, but still working. In fact they seemed to be a little too well off. I didn't have time to complete that thought as a veritable storm of body parts began raining down on us.

It took seconds for the mass of pieces to pin the lot of us down. Slowly the head and torso floated down. A small platoon of hands clapping as it did.

“I am surprised at the fight you put up. But did you really believe you could fight one of The Master's elite units from the inside out?” It hovered over us slowly, seeming to take us all in. “It has been a long time since I have had any form of workout, so I must thank you for making it this far; but this farce must end. Now if you will wait patiently, I will deliver you to The Master's presence.” It began floating towards the doorway when a voice shook the very floor.

“That's far enough!”

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 13

Next

As we dashed into the tower Metudo was entering on our left.

“Where's Asuka?” Neko asked quickly.

“She was beat up pretty bad, so I told her to retreat.” Neko sighed.

“You have the chip?” I asked. Metudo nodded. “Alright what say Neko and I will search up, you look around down here?”

“Sounds fair enough. Besides, I have a hunch the mainframe is down here.” With a quick nod he vanished through a hall. I glanced over to Neko as the tower suddenly shook.

“That would be the ship.” Neko said calmly, starting up the stairs.

Neko
The two of us raced up several floors before we spotted a room billowing smoke, with a quick motion I burst through the door. The room was enormous and circular, there was a gaping hole in one of the walls with a conjoining hole, as well as half the ship, on the other side. The glistening tan tiled floor sported splotches of red, and following the trail I spotted Leukos and Zephos, pinned to the wall. There was a clawed hand holding Leukos up by the throat, a long gash ran up his right arm and into his torso. Zephos was struggling against a plated black foot, pressed up against his ribcage. A thin red trail was running from the corner of his mouth.

Then I saw something cast a shadow for an instant and moved, just in time. I felt a slight warmth run down my cheek and turned to see another claw swing around to take aim again.

“Gffgh!” I turned towards Thorium as he flew a few meters away from a spiked arm plate. This was all the time the hand needed to puncture my arm. In seconds I was pinned.

“Hiiiya!” Someone yelled from outside, and an instant later the ship was blown backwards as water poured into the room. “Whooo!” Anatos was yelling as he rode in on the wave, Lark not far behind. The sudden surge knocked the hand just loose enough for me to push it the rest of the way, and I clambered to gain ground against the sudden tide.

“Watch out you two! It's body is separated into pieces!” Leukos yelled over, rubbing his throat. Sure enough body parts flew down towards us, spiked knees, shoulder pads that looked like pincers and an extraordinarily suggestive codpiece.

Chopper
We were gathered in the largest room, everyone who was going to fight. I had chosen to shift to my most human form for now, but it was getting hard to control my trembling. They were just finishing setting up on stage when Tech walked up to the mike.

Testing. Testing. Alright this is working. I'm going to quickly explain the plan, real fast then give the floor over to Neko to do the whole rally thing.” A screen turned on behind him, displaying a large circular city in the center of a basin.

Now, this is the enemy's main base. As you all probably already know, you've been divided into smaller units and are going to attack from five directions. North, South, East, West and Above. Now to prepare us, I had a small surgical team attack the other six enemy bases and take control of the computer terminals there.

Those terminals will allow me to shift large portions of the planet around, particularly this mountain and any smaller space with in. I'm going to use this as an effective teleport. We're going to move this whole rock right next to the enemy lawn, at the same time I'll send the four ground based armies to their respective spots. From our new location we'll launch the air strike, that will be your cue to begin the assault.

Now each one of you has a computer chip in your packs. I just need one of you to make it to the central tower, and put that chip into the computer there. With that terminal I can modify the entire planet to a more natural state, release the false sky above us, and return the currently vacant animal life to this dying planet's surface.” He stepped down and nodded to Neko who stepped up.

Thank you Tech.” She turned to the rest of us. “Alright, I'm not going to mince words, there are still roughly five hundred thousand Solarus in that base and an estimated force of thousands more in demons and machines. The odds haven't been in our favor since the beginning, there will probably be death. But we must succeed; otherwise every human, demon, shinigami, and Mobian will be killed. We are fighting because we have been given no choice; and we will win because we have no alternative. Now, this rock is going to move in one hour's time. Prepare yourselves mentally, emotionally, physically, in anyway you see fit. I hope to see all of you when this is done.”

I shivered a little as I left the hall, my own emotions were running rampant. I decided to head down to the district one last time. I had an odd feeling I wasn't going to see it again.

The streets were empty, it was so quiet. The civilians were being loaded into a bunker, Tech was going to stay behind in the base and teleport them separately. I considered heading down and saying good bye to some of the people I had met down here, unfortunately most of the people I called friend were going to the field. And then only Bunnie and Sally were going to be in the same unit. I sighed. I missed fighting alongside Luffy, and Franky, and Usopp.

Figuring it was close to time, I got up; determined. After this things were going to be different. I just knew it.

My hand shook as I pushed the door open, I looked around trying to make sure our combined families weren't hanging around. They always seemed to be hanging around us whenever we even begin to get close.

Thankfully as Ranma slipped in there seemed to be no sign of anyone. I sighed as I closed the door behind me and returned my attention to the matter at hand. Ranma had already sat down and was examining the dish we had gotten.

Sanji was well known to be probably the best cook in the building, so I had no doubts about its taste, but the sheer amount of chocolate coating such a variety of fruits, veggies and pastries; I felt like I was going into sugar shock just looking at it. Ranma grabbed one of the fruits and unabashedly gulped it down.

“Man does he know how to prepare food.” I joined her, and indulged myself in the chocolate bliss.

Within ten minutes all that was left was a light sticky mix of syrups congealing on the sides of the pan. Ranma leaned back, sighing heavily as she did. I just caught her staring at me before she hurriedly looked away.

“Hey Akane...” I leaned back as well, stretching out into the dimly lit room.

“Yes?”

“In a week or so, this'll all be over right?”

“What are you talking about?” I rolled over a little to get a better look at her. She still wasn't looking at me, and I could barely see her face for the shadows.

“We're going to war right?”

“I guess you could call it that.” She looked at me, I could see her eyes trembling a little.

“Don't go to the front lines. Don't even fight. Please.” I felt my gut wrench shut. “Akane. After what happened last time, please. I know you're stronger now, but the field is going to be a blood bath. I don't... I don't want to loose you again.”

“I'm sorry.” It was my turn to look away. “I can't stay here. I... I have the strength to protect people. As a daughter of the Anything Goes Tendo School of Martial Arts its my duty to fight. And... I want to.”

“Akane...”

“No Ranma. Listen. Before you arrived I was the strong person, everyone looked up to me. Then you and Ryoga, and Shampoo, Ukyo, Mousse, hell even Konatsu all showed up. Suddenly I'm the one everyone has to protect. I'm not delicate dammit. I don't want to be protected. I was raised fighting, I grew up with ideals about helping others and being a good person. Something I don't know how you even vaguely understand considering who your father is, and how he raised you. So No Ranma. I am going to be in this fight, whether you like it or not.” Silence fell for a few minutes as we stared at each other. Finally she sighed and looked away.

“Fine. Then promise me something.”

“What?”

“Don't leave my side. I'll fight better knowing where you are.” I smiled at her, but before I could reply my door caved open and our combined families fell in, some holding cups. Nabiki broke the silence.

“Alright, nothing to see here. They weren't even making out.” She started ushering people out, but my father hung behind.

“Please tell me you won't actually be going on that horrible field!” He was practically begging.

“Sorry Dad. But I made up my mind. I'm a martial artist, and it is our duty to protect the weak. You guys just wait here where its safe.” Eventually Nabiki dragged him out, slowly, followed by Ranma who shot me a sad smile before leaving.

I couldn't help but sigh when Ranma dumped a small glass of water over himself as we approached the cafeteria.

“Ranma, do you have to do that?”

“What? I've already eaten my male rations for today.”

“Ah! Ladies!” Oh God, Sanji was on duty. “What do the two lovely flowers want today?”

“We heard the coco beans were ready...” Ranma began, slanting her face away to give a perfect wistful look.

“Of course! I'll have my special Love Love Chocolate Explosion ready in an instant!” With that he whirled into the back.

“This is cruel.” I said bluntly.

“What its the only way to get a decent meal around here.”

“Except stopping by when Ukyo is cooking.”

“I can't help it if she gives me a little extra on the top.”

“You do know if Luffy or even Vegeta finds out about this I can't save you right?” A look of sheer terror crossed the redhead's face.

“It's alright, it's alright. They won't figure it out.”

“Ranma!” I heard a heavily accented voice call out and turned to see Shampoo running over to us.

“Ranma?” Sanji had returned with a platter that did indeed look like chocolate had exploded all over it, but more importantly he was very studiously looking down at Ranma.

“Ranma! What you doing with Akane? Should be dating Shampoo.”

“T-This isn't a date!” He said reflexively. I don't know why that hurt; but suddenly Sanji planted his hands firmly on Ranma's shoulders.

“Don't waste your beauty on these other girls.” He grinned, patted Ranma on the head and handed the dish to her. She just stood there stunned.

“How dare you!” Another familiar voice; Ryoga was charging up the hall. “How dare you use your curse to get an extra meal!” Now heads were turning as he dropped his ever present pack and readied a punch. Ranma was skillfully maneuvering herself to protect the food and then, nothing.

Where Ryoga had been was only a black clothed leg. Sanji drew himself back over the counter as if nothing had happened; and Ryoga was no longer anywhere to be seen. Still the damage had been done, and whispers were running through the dinning crowd. Ranma nervously turned to me.

“Say, Akane. How would you like to go eat somewhere else...” Seeing no alternative I nodded slowly and allowed Ranma to drag me off before questions could be asked.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 12

Thorium
Shit, Neko was already in. Guess it's my turn to show off. I grinned as I poured more energy into my weapon, slamming it into the ground. The Solarus approached rapidly, hopping to take advantage of the sudden break in my attack. Unfortunately for them this was exactly what I was hoping for. As they approached I drew a path with my eyes, leading out from the embedded ball. Seconds later metal lines whipped out of the center ball, growing outwards and skewering Solarus easily. As it went I was able to grow the lines thicker by absorbing the metal of the now dead Solarus; I persisted in chaining the line together, growing it larger, soon it crashed into the far wall like a wave, smashing the comparatively feeble concrete.

With a little focus I retracted my weapon back to its smallest size and easily walked along the cleared path into the city.

And you call me a show off.” Neko said as I picked my way over the rubble. I shot her a grin, but even as I did a single shot flew past my ear. Just down the ally I could see a Solarus. A few differences registered rather quickly, first it was slimmer than the others and was even missing armor in some places, second it was holding a pistol rather than the usual machine gun, third I could see a blade tied to its hilt.

Thorium, go, I'll hand this.” Neko said, extending her claws.

No, you go. I can take care of this.” I said, pulling my chain taunt. She looked at me for a moment then sighed.

Alright, we fight it together. Let's make this fast.” She bolted down the street, easily bounding from side to side as she dodged the Commander's shots. Not wanting to be left out I began barreling after her, charging down the middle and trusting her to keep the opponent's view filled.

Re-actively it drew its blade, just barely stopping one of her claws. With a careful flip she kept her momentum and carved her other hand into its shoulder and pulling the creature with her. Seconds later she was hidden behind it and it was trapped and exposed; allowing me to smash my chain through its top half.

It crumpled to the ground and began vanishing as Neko stood up and dusted herself off.

Come on, we still have a job to do.”

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 11

Neko
I felt like the wind rushing past me was carrying me, lifting me higher. My wing filling with air. Wings? I turned my head and noticed I had begun changing without realizing, my arms had long, thick feathers coming out, my bag was falling below me, so I turned a little half circle before pulling into a dive. The speed was amazing, the flight was amazing, being locked up in that base seemed like hell now.

I landed perfectly, arm outstretched as the bag landed cleanly in my grip.

“Show off.” Thorium muttered behind me, and I just smiled back.

“We better get going.” I said, slipping the bag back over my shoulders.

It was eerily quiet as we walked through the frigid forest, we had not planned for snow up to our knees.

“So, end of the world 'eh? I always knew I'd go through it at yer side.” Thorium said. I couldn't help laughing.

“I don't think this is the end.” I said. “But I'm grateful that you're here.”

“Same here, at least I don't have to deal with annoying people. Like Pah.” I sighed.

“Yeah, she's probably warm underground right about now.”

“She'd probably be warm regardless.”

“True. You think Jato and that kid, Marcus are...”

“Oh definitely. I heard 'em last night.” I chuckled. The gossip was keeping us warm, or at least thinking we were warm. Until the temperature did change; very suddenly. The snow stopped at the edge of a cliff, below was a field of green. In the center was a high walled city.

“Here we are...” I said. “And here comes the welcoming party.” Thorium already had his chain out and was beginning to spin it.

Not nearly as many left here as we thought.” He said. I could see him contemplating this fact.

Probably for the best, we don't have much in the way of large attacks.”

Speak for yourself.” He said grinning before he jumped down the cliff. As he did the weight at the end of his chain began to grow by the second. I jumped down, letting the wings I still had carry me closer to the field. By the time he met the front line the ball was spiked and larger than a Solarus. He swung with a wide arc, swiping away several at once. I swooped in a little lower, just high enough so I could land safely, and let the wings retract into smooth muscle.

I landed on my feet, claws out, and began tearing through the horde. I felt my body's energy soak some bullets, but no more than I had expected, in fact several less. As a dance I leapt around my foes, cleaving them apart as I went, my claws cutting through them as if they were made of paper; I maintained my momentum and reached the wall in no time. Not wanting to slow down I charged the wall, spring-boarding off a Solarus before sinking my claws into the top. With a small heave I daintily hopped over into the city.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 10

Odin
My face clenched as I pressed myself against the rough cut walls. Barely five minutes after officially digging into enemy territory and we were already in trouble. Apparently there was an entire cavern down here, filled with ruined buildings. Pah fell down a trap door almost immediately, and almost as soon as I began tunneling after, I got attacked.

Cautiously I peered around the makeshift corner into the darkness that my small torch could not pierce. I scanned the open room, assuming whatever was down here could see just fine. I spotted a tendril of darkness reaching towards me second before it cut into the wall I had just ducked behind. It bent, formlessly following me, I turned, giving it my armored shoulder. Thankfully I heard it scrape across, just cutting into the metal. But it rapidly turned to again strike, fortunately its speed had diminished enough that I could move out of the way and start putting some distance between myself and it.

As I backed away I saw what looked like the full body pull itself around the corner. A mass of darkness, lurching slowly, a small eye glistened in my torchlight. I wouldn't have a better chance.

I rapidly pressed my free hand to the ground, focusing on the earth around me. I tried to recall rapidly how to do the one move I had learned.

Diamond Coffin!” I called its name, hoping that would help me remember. All the same my yelling seemed to stall the creature in front of me; long enough for my energy to take hold. A familiar feeling flooded my body as the ground shifted; the ground peeling upwards and smashing together around the beast. Then a second set, a third, fourth, five layers. By the fifth one I could feel the pressure in the center, strong enough that the innermost layer would in time become diamond.

Satisfied I dusted myself off and looked around; holding my torch up to see as much as I could. Suddenly my torch went flying. In the dancing light I saw a tendril reaching around. Following it I could just see the darkness seeping out of the cracks in the wall I had made before the torch hit the ground and went out.

Akane
Hey, Ichigo. I just heard about Urahara.” I said, knocking on his door. It had been a few hours since the report on our last mission out was released. My chest hurt when I read those words, even though I had already guessed at it. I had talked to Yoruichi about it, and while distant, she did ask me to check on Ichigo. “I know he was your teacher, and I just want to say, I'm sorry.” The door opened suddenly, and he was towering over me. His face was practically a mask, but I could see a little red under his eyes.

Don't blame yourself. He died protecting others. He wouldn't want us to be upset. None of the people who have died here would.” I could feel tears starting as he talked. He sounded so cold, almost hollow.

I-I know. But if I had been stronger than maybe...”

Don't start that. You were the reason the rest of your team got away.” I nodded slowly; choking a bit as I did. Suddenly I felt his arms around me, and I let go. He just silently stood there, taking my tears.

As I calmed down I began to realize my hair was suddenly wet, noticing I was almost done Ichigo let me go quickly and began sweeping at his own eyes.

You should go, I've got... work to do.” He said, obviously not looking directly at me. I nodded and left.

The day had seemed like a haze and evening found me wandering back towards my own room. I lightly undid the sash holding my gi closed and laid down in bed.

I couldn't seem to get comfortable, maybe it was still too early, or maybe it was just the events of the past few hours; but I was upset, and wishing for the comforts of my old life; a proper house, pajamas, a good bath.

Slipping back on my gi, I decided a bath did sound nice, even if it was a public one. As I slipped out I came face to face with Ranma; who froze mid-step like a child caught with his hand in the jar.

A-Akane. I uh... I heard about the mission.” I looked away, I don't know why I didn't want him to see me cry, but I couldn't help it. “H-Hey, you want to um... I dunno go grab something to eat? I heard the kitchen just made a batch of chocolate.” I considered for a moment, and nodded. He let a small grin escape across his face. “Alright, I'll be right back. Oh and if you see Shampoo, tell her I'm headed to the labs. That should get rid of her.” With that he slipped down the hall towards his room. Soon enough Shampoo scampered past, wearing close to nothing and asking around about him. I passed the message along and watched her run off.

I slipped back into my room and looked in the small poorly made closet for some clothing. All I really had was my gi, I managed to scavenge a few decent dresses from a few of my missions out, but it was fairly dangerous to dress nicely around here since at any given time there was at least one fight breaking out in the hallways. Sadly Ranma contributed quite a bit to said fights. I contemplated just wearing my gi, which was made to take abuse, but decided to take a nicer dress. It was a light blue in color, which offset my hair well and had a modest skirt that billowed down around my ankles. It looked similar to a previous dress I had owned which, in retrospect, was probably why I had grabbed it.

No sooner had I dressed than there was a knock on the door. Ranma was huddled along one of the walls.

I think she went to the labs looking for you about ten minutes ago.” I said plainly, he let out a heavy sigh.

You ready for some grub!” He said, smiling broadly. I managed to return the smile and let him lead me off to the dining halls.

Luffy

So you think he's hiding meat behind there!” I asked Goku, already drooling a little. There hadn't been much in the way of meat since no animals had been found outside yet; and what little we had, was found dried and packaged. Still, I could not doubt Goku's information. Nothing else I could think of would be important enough to put behind such powerful doors.

Gomu Gomu no Gatling!” I called my attack and swung a flurry of punches; but the door still stood. Goku was right, there was definitely meat here. But this door was a tough opponent.

Hmm... Let me try.” I moved to give Goku a clear shot.

Ka-Me-Ha-Me-Ha!” A blue beam!

Are you a robot!” His beam cut out as he thought.

I don't think so...” I waited patiently for him to think about it. “Unless Saiyans are robots... I should ask Vegeta.” I nodded and watched him leave before focusing again on the real problem. This door was tough, so I'd need to step things up a notch.

Gear Third!” I said as I bit down on my thumb and blew air into my bones, inflating them to gargantuan size.

Luffy! What are you doing!” Crap. I turned to see Nami heading towards me.

Tech's hiding something important in here, so I'm gonna get it.” I said, hoping the truth would work best in this situation. Her eyes flickered for a moment.

Third gear won't be enough. You better use Haki.” Those beli marks on her eyes were kind of scary, but she had a point.

Busoshoku Koka!” I focused my willpower as my enlarged arm took on a black coloration. “Elephant Pistol!” I launched my strike, feeling the walls of the cave shiver from the blow. As I pulled my arm back I could see the door reappearing as if it had always been there. I sat down, trying to think of how to break this door. Nami also seemed to be contemplating it.

I'm going to go see if I can find someone who knows how to open this.” She said suddenly, walking off. Suddenly an idea hit me. If punching wasn't working maybe cutting would.

Zoro!” I yelled, as I ran off to find him.

InuYasha
Alright, remember you can try to break this thing, but no Meidou. I don't think the cave could handle it.” I nodded as Kagome talked behind me. Nami had been talking about this strange door, and after hearing about it I thought it might be something I could use.

I know I know. Now let's see what this door is made of.” I said, drawing Tessaiga and stabbing it. The blade sank in, but when I pulled it back out the door just sealed back up. “Huh. That's interesting. Well I guess I'll have to break it down then!” I decided to start with the Barrier Breaking Tessaiga as my blade took on the necessary red coloration. I drew back and dealt a solid blow. Once again the door just rebuilt.

Fine then. Kongosoha!” I summoned spears along the length of my blade and fired those. The cavern shook at the force of the attack, but still the door held. It seemed to be eating the spears as they vanished, leaving a perfectly smooth surface behind.

You asked for it. Meidou...”

InuYasha Sit!” I tried to yell, but all that came out was a muffled gurgle.

Are you guys here for something?” I looked up to see Tech, at the same time realizing we had gathered a bit of a crowd.

Yes! My book! You thief!” Kakashi yelled suddenly, jumping out of the crowd. Tech looked at him for a moment, then typed something on his arm. The door beeped a few times before fading from sight; revealing the tech labs. He calmly walked in and came back out a few seconds later with a green book with a large title Icha Icha on it.

This? I thought it was something important, or coded. Here.” Tech threw it over to Kakashi who greedily snatched it out of the air before turning to the rest of us. “Now what about the rest of you?” A nervous look ran through the small crowd as some of the people in the back began to break away.

What about the meat!” Luffy suddenly yelled.

There is none.”

Liar!”

If there was any meat it would be in the kitchen.”

But I'm not allowed in the kitchen.”

Precisely.” With that Tech turned around and walked back into his lab, a new door appearing in front of it.

This is a quick side note, from here on out I'm not going to run the Shadow story any longer. Instead I will be using this as the main story-line and primarily follow Akane; but I do hold liberty to jump to other characters for extended periods of time. (This will be noted with the character's name in bold text). Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed my work so far, this will hopefully streamline things and make the whole story more enjoyable for all.

Naruto
There was only a week left before the attack, everyone was feeling the pressure, and in no one was it better represented than by Kakashi-sensei, right now.

Naruto, you have to help me here.” His visible eye was teared up and glossy. “Tech borrowed something from me, something extremely important, and he's locked his door and won't give it back. I need it Naruto, badly!”

A-Alright I'll help!” I said, a little unnerved by his display.

Thank you Naruto-san!” He gripped my hand in both of his and dragged me down several floors to the front of a large metal door. “Now, use a Tailed Beast Bomb. We'll go in and...”

Wait, I think a Beast Bomb is a bit much here, wouldn't it cause a cave in?” He hesitated for a moment. “It doesn't look that tough, why don't you just break it down?”

Its some sort of new metal, any damage I do just seals back up; so we need something big.” I nodded.

Alright. One Big Ball Rasengan!” I said, summoning up the two clones to stabilize the technique.

That won't!” It was too late, my arm plunged into the metal as if it wasn't there; and almost immediately the metal began trying to pull back together around my arm.

With a little force I managed to pull myself free. “I think we need a specialist here. Let's go find Thorium, he's probably the one that made this metal.”

Or you could blow the whole door off with a Beast Bomb.”

Yeah and probably collapse the whole base, we're not doing that.”

What's this about collapsing the base?” I turned to the new voice, seeing Goku-san.

Oh nothing, we're just trying to get something important back from Tech.” I said cautiously.

Something important huh...” He seemed to contemplate the door, but I got a bad feeling as I saw a thin trail of drool run down his cheek.

It's alright, we've got it under control, we're going to find Thorium now.” He barely waved at us as we left.

We did find Thorium a few rooms down playing with a small inanimate metal hedgehog.

Oh hey guys, you here for armor too?” His eyes didn't leave the toy, almost like he was expecting it to move.

Not really, we need to get into Tech's lab, he's locked himself behind that big metal door.”

Wait, since when did he have that?” Thorium said, suddenly getting up and walking past us.

Well that's unnerving.”

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 9

As we cleared the other side, rain started pouring down on the streets; soon pooling and creating currents. As the streets steadily became more hazardous Asuka stopped ahead of me; another danger having revealed itself.

A Solarus, lightly held together by some unseen force and holding a long black blade. Tech had warned us about these in one of the briefings. The blades were made from the same material as the bullets and were designed to drain and seal our energy. Asuka already had her own blade ready.

When I move, you run.” She whispered, I couldn't do anything but nod. A tense second later she bolted towards the thing and I made a break for the nearest ally.

The sound of the pounding rain flooded my ears as I ran. I turned the first corner, stopping to catch my breath and think. The water was already up to my ankles, I needed to retreat to higher ground.

As I floated to the top of the warehouses, I could see Asuka on top of another roof. She was still fighting the Commander, though her arm seemed bloodied. I approached slowly, wondering if I could help, or if I should help. As I did I noticed the Commander lean into her attacks, her blade just bounced off it, leaving her defenseless as it landed another blow onto her hand. Instinctively I hefted my cane; channeling energy into it.

Once I knew I had a solid layer over the length of my weapon, I began moving towards the fight. As I did I noticed something, every time her blade landed on the creature's body a spot on its neck flickered for a second. I sent a mental message towards Asuka, hoping she would notice the same thing.

However as I barreled forward, the Commander rapidly turned to face me; completely ignoring Asuka. Despite her striking from behind the creature, and subsequently flying backwards. I held my cane like a blade, and hoped I had learned enough to fight on par with this monster.

The initial blows were heavy handed, but I held my ground, watching for an opportunity. I guessed that the small gemstone on its neck was the source of its invulnerability, and if years of gaming had taught me anything it was hit the shiny spot. Thankfully comparative weeks of combat training had taught me enough to play defensively.

Despite that I felt the cold of his steel cut through my side, then again across my shoulders. I quickly realized I wasn't going to win in a test of ability, and watched his blade. Clenching my teeth I forced shields around my left hand and clamped down on his blade. I felt it cut deep into my hand, but my grip held; giving me the second I needed to thrust the end of my cane into the gemstone.

Oddly enough, the gemstone itself didn't budge, however the entire region around the stone burst inwards horribly; forcing the creature to stagger backwards. I pressed my advantage, tossing its sword behind me and striking again with my cane. It lifted an arm to stop me, but I just cleaved right through the metal as if it were paper. With another blow I crushed it's head, the gemstone finally popping off and skipping along the ground. Asuka finally noticed it, and rushed over; picking up the jewel.

You have to be kidding me!” She nearly yelled, holding it up.

What?” I asked, shredding the lower part of my shirt to make a bandage.

The gem of Yag'Shir.” I just looked up at her for a moment before returning to wrapping my hand. “It's one of the holy items in my order. It is able to negate all but the strongest light based attacks. I had only seen pictures, which don't depict the glow it gives off well.” She fingered it for a moment before slipping it into her shirt. I clenched my teeth before tightening the makeshift bandage and tying it.

With a little pain I stood back up, looking towards the tower as the rain continued to pour down on us.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 8

Metudo
Asuka was already several feet away by the time I unhooked myself from the chute. I could guess why she would want to, but it wasn't like I was in control of my powers yet. I hurried my step to try and catch up, only to trip in the deep snow.

By the time I had struggled my way out of the death trap, she was already down the cliff. Stumbling forward I found a slight path leading down. Desperate to get out of the cold I lunged forward, breaking free of the frozen sludge, and overshooting the path by a good inch. I stumbled a bit, and began tumbling down the cliff; landing in a heap at the base.

It took me a few minutes to get up and check myself for any real damage. Fortunately, other than a few bruises, I was in good shape. Ahead I could see Asuka, her light drawn into a thin rapier, facing down the oncoming hordes; and she was slaughtering them. They were still not in firing range, but with every swing of her blade the front lines would pop like peeps in the oven. I awestruck as she finished off the last of them and continued daintily onwards through the carnage.

I shook myself out of my stupor and hurried to catch up.

What was that?” I asked, breathing heavily. She didn't even stop, just kept onwards. “Look, I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I'm sorry about the thing in the room.”

That, spectacle, was all I needed to understand you. Now if you insist on performing this charade, follow behind me, and do not deign to touch me with your powers.” As she finished she leapt into the air, landing easily on the top of the high wall.

Great.” I muttered, conjuring up an image of a platform underneath me and lifting it, as well as myself, up to the top of the wall.

Dimensional Warriors: Battle Beneath the Tower. Chapter 7

Our blades cracked as the rain poured over the city. Below the streets were filling with water, currents and rivulets forming, swirling through the city. My opponent's steel sang through the moist air, cracking against my clear blade. I tried to press an opening, but in my haste I felt cold metal go through my arm. Blood mixed with water, gathering in my clenched palm. The second I took to gain control was all it needed. A new pain ran from my arm to my face as it removed its blade and planted the hilt into my face. It was ridiculously fast. I staggered backwards, trying to get some ground to recover when the blade fell across my chest.

It was a light cut, bleeding a bit, but thankfully I had distance now. I turned immediately, leaping for the next closest rooftop; skidding a little as I went. I could hear the metallic ringing of its footsteps behind me; unfortunately, there was no cover. The warehouses were roughly the same height, meaning I had nowhere to hide.

As I jumped another gap, I suddenly found myself shooting into the air. Surprised I looked to find a large tree growing steadily out of the side of a building.

“Lark!” I yelled down as she came into view, bow drawn. Without responding she planted an arrow into the Commander's remaining shoulder. It stumbled back for a moment, which was all it took for her to place a second arrow into the thing's chest. It fell down and she looked up at me.

“You need to take better care of your things!” She called back, throwing my metal staff up to me. I fumbled with it before finally grasping the slick piece. I heard movement and saw the Commander was standing again, immediately I forced my staff to extend, and leapt towards it.

My staff collided with its blade, and held for a moment. I felt wind blast across my face as another arrow planted itself in the thing's head. It staggered for a moment, its grip weakening. I pushed forward, hearing a crinkle of breaking metal at the same moment the blade gave way. The end of my staff pressed downward, cleaving the creature in two. It and it's blade slowly began crumpling, a pool of black dust being all that was left behind.

“Thanks.” I said, hearing Lark approach.

“Hey, we're even.” She said, walking past me. As I watched her go, my eyes caught on something that distracted me. The whip was still floating in midair. I went over, gripping the handle I tried to pull. The clear length refused to move. After struggling with it for a few moments I began looking closely along the length. There were rain drops, glued to all sides of the whip. They looked frozen there, as if caught in the air. The whip itself almost looked like a stream of water. I gripped the handle and an idea struck me.

“Retract.” I said, a second later the stream slid into the hilt with a crack. Grinning I pocketed the device and went to find where Lark had gotten off to.

“No, no you're not completing the ball!” Pahhur flickered a perfectly round flame in front of me. “It's more comfortable to throw, and tends to explode on contact if you round it out fully.”

“For not knowing a lot you're certainly bossy.” I retorted, filling out the flame in my hand.

“Hey I at least know how to create a solid fireball.” She was way too proud.

“Pahhur-chwan!” Sanji was going off again. Since Pah decided to help out those of us that tended towards fire energy Tech put out a notice and reserved a training chamber for us. Sanji, unfortunately, was among those who stopped by.

A few others showed up at one point or another. Particularly this one guy, Zaraki. He came in, beat up Pahhur, and left. Vegeta did something similar a few days later. The room was fairly quiet, so long as one ignored the love cook dancing around in the corner. Pahhur seemed to put up with him far more than most of us.

Today though, we had someone I didn't expect watching us. Hiei was one of the strongest fire users in the base. He hadn't done anything but support the wall so far, but he was watching me. I tried to shrug it off and focus.

I needed something larger than a regular fireball. It was great that I could do it, but even Ranma knew more techniques than what equated to an energy blast. I needed a technique. I felt a hand on my shoulder.

“Do you want to find what you seek?” Hiei was standing next to me. I nodded slowly, he grinned. “Follow me.” He walked away, calmly like nothing had happened. Regaining my composure I sprinted to catch up.

We stopped at one of the general training rooms. Without saying a word he leaned back against the wall. I guessed I had to watch to room. There were a ton of strong people, they were all sparring, preparing for the upcoming battle. So many abilities and techniques flew across the room. I caught sight of a familiar face.

“Yoruichi-san!” I called out to one of my teachers. She had stopped after a while, saying I needed to grow a little more on my own.

“Ah.” She motioned for a time-out with the guy she had been effectively beating before kicking off the air and landing next to me. “Akane-san.” She looked over me and grinned. “You look stronger.”

“Yeah I've got the fireball down, but I think I need something else.” I could feel Yoruichi looking me over. She grinned.

“I have an idea, you're body seems the right type to handle this, and it'll be interesting to see what fire energy does to the technique...” She clapped her hands together. “But first we should find fire retardant clothes.”

“Okay, the basic idea of this technique is you use your energy to enhance your body; at higher levels it allows you to move faster and hit harder. The downside is it is hard to then use your energy as a ranged attack as well.” I nodded.

“Now. Draw on your energy; but instead of pushing it into a ball, let it spread around your hand.” I watched as a red glow began to coat my hand. “Good, this is what most people call an aura. The strength varies depending on how much energy you have at your disposal. Now focus, and increase the surface area. Try and coat your whole body.”

By the time I could spread the red glow around myself, it was so dim it was almost imperceptible.

“Not good. I know you've got more in you than that.” She suddenly lit up, a white aura coating her body. “This is about the normal level. I know you can manage this.” However despite all our efforts, we were stumped. I simply couldn't draw out enough energy.

“What emotion are you drawing on?” Yoruichi finally asked. “I mean, what do you think back to when you draw out your energy. I blushed a little.

“Just... Well mostly Ranma.”

“Ooh?” She gave me a crude smile.

“Not like that! He just pisses me off! Always flirting with the others, rubbing it in my face. He's always teasing me, just because he's stronger!” She hadn't stopped smiling in fact she started laughing.

“Oh young romance. I love it.”

“It's not like that!”

“You're engaged right?”

“Our parents decided that!” She hadn't stopped laughing.

“So you're drawing on jealousy then.”

“I'm not jealous.”

“Uh-huh. Anyway, jealousy is a fairly weak emotion, we need to find something else.” She acted like I wasn't even talking. “Strong emotions are the key to strong energy.” I sighed, giving up. “What you need is something more inspiring.” She seemed to be thinking.

“Well what do you draw off of?” I asked. She just gave me a coy smile.

“You know resolve is a strong one. You should hear that Naruto kid's little speech, it's quite inspiring. Desire is another good one. Ichigo draws a lot from that emotion. The strongest by far are love and hate; but they're very fickle. Most of the time lasting only a little while. Duty would work too.” She just kept rambling until it looked like I had dropped my question.

“Alright, alright, so what do you suggest?”

“Find a higher calling.”

“What?”

“Right now you are focused on you and what you want. I know there's more strength in you, because deep down you have some very strong desires. The desire to protect people.” I opened my mouth, but lost my words. “When you have been dealing with people as long as I have, you can tell these things.”

“But I'm not that strong. I can't protect people. Ranma is always the one...”

“Ah but you are strong. He knows it, the people here know it. Heck you rank high on our charts drawing just on your jealousy. Now, imagine this. A Solarus baring down on a defenseless child.” That was easy for me, I remembered what happened just a little while after waking up. My body reacted immediately, like flood gates opening power rushed through me.

“See, you can do it.” She said, I opened my eyes and looked at myself in the reflective surface. My entire body shown with a strong red glow. “That will only get stronger, the more you learn to control it. Come on, let's get this fine tuned; maybe we can get you on the front lines.”

In no time war had come.

Fan Fiction Chapter Series. Akane Chapter 14

The entire base was on lock down. A new group had arrived, they wanted to attack the Solarus. The people rose up against them. Odin tried to maintain peace, but two went past him, going to see Metudo. I along with some others followed after, taking a side route to the main hall, when from the shadows we watched their leader fight ours.

She won, it was amazing, he body had changed midway through the fight, she looked part cat by the time she pinned Metudo. But that wasn't all that happened, apparently one of them had stayed behind, fighting Anatos.

There was a declaration that screamed out of the loud speakers; then there was a large flood and a girl came floating out.

I found out later that she used to be a guy. It didn't surprise me that when I went looking for her I found Ranma already there.

“Hey Akane.” He said nonchalantly.

“This is your fiancee?” The other girl said, with about the same level of emotion.

“It's not... Our parent's decided for us.” I said in unison with Ranma. The girl gave us a confused look.

“I was just talking to Pahhur here about you know curses and things.”

“Shame I can't touch water, I could use something like these cursed springs.”

“You know you'd still be a girl half the time right?” Ranma pointed out.

“Half would be better than all.” She sighed. I was surprised to see someone more desperate than Ranma. She even had the whole pouting thing down.

“Well it isn't all bad, you can get some free stuff as a girl!” Ranma said, a little too excitedly. I walloped him into the ground.

“Don't be teaching her that useless stuff.” He chuckled nervously at me, as he got up and tried to whisper in Pahhur's ear.

“She's so violent.”

“I heard that.” He froze up and backed away. I tenderized him a bit, and left him on the floor. No less than he deserved. I then turned to Pahhur.

“Don't listen to him too much. He's a little... special. Anyway, you're really permanently stuck?” I asked the boiling question. She sighed.

“Yeah, I don't know what world you guys come from, but we didn't even have magic in my world. Some old guy did a ritual on me. Thing was my old body was ripped to shreds beforehand, so he had to give me a new one.”

“And you really can't touch water?” Pahhur shook her head. “I'm some sort of Fire God or something. Water burns me.” My ears had twitched.

“You have fire based energy?” I hadn't heard of anyone actively being fire based around here. Some people had been suggested, but the few with any type of experience refused to teach. She nodded slowly at my enthusiasm.

“There's a lot of people here, myself included, who just recently learned they're fire based, but we don't have anyone who can show us what to do with it.” Pahhur shook her head.

“Sorry, I barely know what I'm doing either. I just start fighting and things catch on fire around me.” I sighed. “But I guess I can try, who knows maybe by trying to teach you guys I'll learn something.”

Fan Fiction Chapter Series. Akane Chapter 13

This chapter contains material that I do not own, they are the property of one of the following: Akira Toriyama, Yoshihiro Togashi, Rumiko Takahashi, Tite Kubo, Masashi Kishimoto, Eiichiro Oda, and Yuji Naka. Please support these excellent artists.

I woke up back at the base. Tech was working nearby.

“Where am I?”

“Tech labs, isn't it obvious?”

“Okay, why not the hospital?”

“You weren't badly injured. But something happened out there, and your body is still showing traces.”

“What are you... the Crystal?” He walked over to me, slapping a sensor on my forehead.

“Precisely! As you may know the Crystals unlock hidden potentials, and bring the user up to a new level of power. However my radar showed an extreme spike in energy followed by an immediate drop.” Chopper tells me when you got a hold of the Crystal you caused some form of explosion. I want to find out why.”

“Can I go?” He gave me an indignant look.

“Fine fine, but first can you hold this?” He handed me the yellow Crystal. I felt power flow steadily into my body, nothing like the sudden surge and burning sensation the other one had.

“Good, that is a normal reaction. Overall power enhancement, if you tapped further you'd be plumbing new depths. Now, take this one.” He said, taking away the yellow one and handing me the blue one. Immediately I felt like I was bloated on energy, my skin started burning. Before it could release he took the stone from me.

“One last one.” He said, handing me the red Crystal. I felt like I was holding ten yellow crystals, I was overwhelmed, energy wanted to pour out of my body, the sheets covering me were crisping up around me.

“Spectacular. I think I've got it. Energy imprints!”

“What?” He sighed.

“Each of the elements has a different imprint to it. Each person's individual imprint can be placed under one of these twenty-four imprints. These gems have an odd imprint, but that is because they are a mixture of imprints. I'd say between three and four apiece. Now, each element reacts differently with the other elements, you have a fire based imprint, the yellow gem gives you a neutral response, basic increases in power. The red gem matches your imprint, and actually gives you more energy. The blue gem has the opposite imprint, causing a form of poisoning, where it draws in your power and radiates it violently outwards.”

“And they would react differently to different people...”

“Exactly.”

“Well that's all good, but I should get going. I'm sure we've still got more of them to find.”

“Not necessary, the last team was just sent out to pick up the fourth Crystal. The remaining three are confirmed to be in enemy hands.”
